National group looking for historic travel destinations
Is there a town or city in Ohio that you think has a unique heritage and is a great place to visit?

Every year, the National Trust for Historic Preservation honors a dozen places in the U.S. as Distinctive Destinations. According to the trust, these communities: have preserved their sense of place and character, have dynamic downtowns, a strong commitment to historic preservation and revitalization, interesting architecture, cultural diversity, an economic base of locally owned small businesses, and walking access for residents and visitors.

Two Ohio towns -- Milan, the birthplace of Thomas Edison, and Oberlin -- have been honored previously by the trust. They join a list which includes Annapolis, Maryland; Natchez, Mississippi; Saratoga Springs, New York; and Walla Walla, Washington. For a complete list of sites honored previously, go to www.nationaltrust.org/dozen_distinctive_destinations/list.asp. The list might prove useful as you plan future vacations.

While individuals can't nominate places, they can suggest that organizations nominate their towns. Convention & Visitors Bureaus, Chambers of Commerce and preservation organizations can apply. All nominations must be received by Sept. 28, 2007.
