Travel to scenic Spring Hill for Civil War history, corn maze

Straddling the Williamson/Maury county line about 30 miles southwest of Nashville, Spring Hill is a city ranging along a two-lane stretch of Highway 31, surrounded by rolling farmland and large estates. The heart of the town, its small stores and antebellum homes, is bordered north and south by new development.

Spring Hill is, to put it mildly, a growing community. In 2000, there were 7,715 residents. This year, a special census counted an impressive new total: 23,462. A 300 percent population growth in seven years officially classifies Spring Hill as the 14th fastest-growing city in America.

Jan and Randy Brasfield moved to Spring Hill in 2003 for new jobs. They're amazed by the changes they've seen in the short time they've lived there. "It's growing by leaps and bounds," says Jan. "It's unbelievable, the number of houses and commercial sites that have come up." In the last seven years, more than 8,000 building permits have been issued within city limits.
